Word is a fine word processor but it adds a lot of junk code into you wp.com blog which could break your site.
I believe that WindowsLiveWriter is an alternative. Once it's set up the interface is like a familiar word processor but can be used safely with WordPress.com. It is also free.

I was able to get Word 2010 to post to a test blog - not something I would recommend at all did not seem to put the junk in (but I did not dissect the html code no big changes in the looks) - Use LiveWriter - works more better by a bunch -
