   Hello WordPress People,

   I just recently upgraded my Windows Live Blog (ShawnWasHeres.spaces.live.com) to WordPress (ShawnWasHere.WordPress.com)

   What I found: Not all of my images were imported. Further, all the ones that were imported shrunk… a lot!

   I’m not going to lie. When I first upgraded my blog to WordPress, I was very disheartened to find that all my images had been shrunk. On Windows Live, on average, my images were 1600 x 1200 and about 300 KB. At WordPress, they are 300 x 200, 15 KB. This is a huge difference!

   I originally thought that maybe there is not enough room for all my images, in their original size, under the WordPress 3 GB cap. But, this is not the case.

   While investigating this, I discovered a bigger issue. In the Windows Live Photo album that contains all my images from that blog, there are 367 images. In my WordPress media Library: 320. Uh oh! 47 pictures got lost.

   I am now faced with the very daunting task of, over 87 blog entries, figuring out which 47 images are missing (yikes), and then manually replacing 320 images with a large version. I will never be able to fix all this …

   I have my fingers crossed there is a solution to this? I would love to redo the upgrade and have all my images imported in the original size.

   If you look at the other Windows Live import threads, you'll see that only images that were contained in blog posts got imported here. As for the shrinkage issue, I think you'll have to contact staff via your dashboard Help button. you're not the only one reporting changes; note, however, that there is NO theme here that will display a 1600 pixel wide image in the main blog column.

   And the number of people with 1600px wide monitors is not too high, which causes them to have to scroll horizontally to see the image, which is the #3 thing web users dislike the most. Also, you have to keep in mind that not everyone has 14mb internet connections. A large percentage are still on under 1mb connections and that means your blog would load very slowly and with the minute patience of web surfers today, it is not a good idea to make them wait. They are just as likely to click away and go elsewhere than wait for 2 or 3 minutes for your blog to load.

   Just my opinion.

   There are several themes here where you can go with "no sidebar" which will give you around 1000px of width for your images, but seriously, optimize your images so that they are under 100k each. Always think of your visitors.
