Wordpress Audio Player Queries

  1. Hey

Anyone know if I can make some cool edits to the WordPress Audio Player - change size, color etc? Is there a way to enable download on the player or track? I'm a real novice at this.

Currently I am a streaming a file that is available on a different service that I grabbed using it's URL. For example http://summoningspirits.wordpress.com/2013/07/30/899/

    Thanks

    Pete

The blog I need help with is summoningspirits.wordpress.com.

  2. Thanks, that helped loads especially being able to group tracks together in the same player.

Is there anyway to enable a type of download function?

    Pete

  3. Hey

I have another question, it's about the Music Player widget, I can't seem to get it working. Can I not link from another URL? or is it a format issue?

    Thanks

    Pete

  4. Depends. What is the URL and have you made sure it's not a "live" link when you put it in the player?

  5. Great audio player post @justpi! We'll check it against the en.support doc to make sure it gets corrected if it has any mistakes in it still.

  6. @antiarnadubh, note that the audio player only accepts .mp3 files. Make sure the links you are using are .mp3 and not .m4a.

Also, check the Text tab and make sure no extra HTML has snuck into the shortcode—that can happen sometimes in browsers when you copy paste things.

  7. When I enable the "Music Player" widget, I click "Choose Songs", a new window appears and I select "From URL" and paste this link in http://antilight.org/svierg/mp3/Earth.mp3 and it appears as
test then I click save and nothing appears on my sidebar but the title. Any idea why? does it not work for external URLs?

    Pete

  8. *it appears as -
test , I had to space certain words as it wouldn't paste into the text box here correctly.

  9. I can't seem to paste it here without it hyperlinking to the page, I'll try again but if it doesn't work this time hopefully you understand what I mean -
    test

  10. If you're having trouble pasting here, that may also be the cause of some of your trouble getting the music player setup.

I'll try your steps right now using http://antilight.org/svierg/mp3/Earth.mp3 for the link.

  11. i think i can paste it here now, I just had to space it, hopefully this works and you get the idea -

    <a href='http://antilight.org

    /svierg/mp3/Earth.mp3'>

    test

  12. <
    /a>

Sorry, I was looking at the audio player shortcode before, not the music player widget!

I tested the Music Player widget, and it looks to me like the "From URL" was never intended as an option and it shouldn't be listed there after you click "Choose Songs." I will double check about that and reply back here with what I find out.

From my current understanding, you do need to purchase Extra Storage (AKA the Space Upgrade) in order to upload audio files which can then be used in the Music Player widget. To do it, you need to use the "playlist" shortcode as shown in the example in this help page link:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/#embedding-the-playlist-into-your-sidebar (look below step 2 under the "Embedding the playlist into your sidebar" heading)

Is there anyway to enable a type of download function?

To offer music for download, first make sure you have rights to distribute it. Then you can simply create a plain link to the file and instruct readers to right-click and save the file. Here are the instructions for adding a link in case it's helpful:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

I have another question, it's about the Music Player widget, I can't seem to get it working. Can I not link from another URL?

It does look to me like using an outside URL in the Music Player widget will not work, however, I'm going to double check on that detail for you.

  14. Great, I really appreciate it.

    Pete

  15. Aside from that issue with the playlist, what is your end goal? Because you can insert either an audio player with the MP3 link you mentioned earlier or you can create a link. The audio player and the playlist widget are slightly different. Would it work for you to add an audio player instead of the playlist?

  16. I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy extra storage as it's not a necessity for me. A hyperlink to an outside source is okay, I thought I'd check if there was an alternate way.

I was curious to use some sort of audio player other than this one - http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/ (Which I can use by copying the code and putting it in a Text widget) for my sidebar.

  17. Try adding a text widget to your sidebar:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/

And then add this shortcode to the text widget:

    [audio http://antilight.org/svierg/mp3/Earth.mp3|bg=0x0000ff|righticon=0xff0000]

It has a couple basic color code examples such as 0x0000ff for blue and 0xff0000 for red (the same example from justpi's tutorial) to give you an idea about how they work.

  18. great, thanks :)
