Wordpress BASIC blog not appearing in Google

  1. Hello,

Have the basic FREE blog with no control over customization or web pages. Wondering how to make it appear in Google?

I've tried the Google Analytics business and there is nowhere to place the code.

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is myappleinsights.wordpress.com.

  2. Are you asking about being able to view the Google Analytics for your site? This is not available for wordpress.com.

Or for having your site appear in searches? When I search site:http://myappleinsights.wordpress.com/, I see results from your blog.

  3. I see. So you need a premium/custom WordPress site to use Google Analytics?

Before when I typed in "apple insights" into Google nothing from my site would show up. Even a Tumblr blog from someone else showed up. Now when I type my full title with an "s" at the end it shows up! Guess i'll have to change the title to singular, no one is going to type in "insights" with a plural.

    Thanks for your help!

  4. It takes weeks for search engines to index content in a new blog and/or to re-index content under a new URL. What attracts search engines is unique content the cannot in posts that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet. Start now publishing original content posts frequently two or even three times weekly. For more information read > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/21/omg-i-cant-find-my-blog-on-google/

To verify blog ownership of a WordPress.com blog with the major search engines you must use this process > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don't feel panicky about this please.

Note also that WordPress.com automatically supplies sitemaps for our blogs to search engines - we do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines

  5. I see. So you need a premium/custom WordPress site to use Google Analytics?

    No that's not correct.

    Additional Info
    Can I use Google Analytics?
No, Google Analytics cannot be used on WordPress.com blogs at this time. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#additional-info

There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.com blogs.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

See here for a full comparison WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
    http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

There is no upgrade you can purchase here that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins and or any third party themes. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

  6. This search string gives 74 results from your site:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=http%3A%2F%2Fmyappleinsights.wordpress.com&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=rcs#channel=rcs&q=site:http:%2F%2Fmyappleinsights.wordpress.com&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

The problem is that I doubt you are the only web site in the world that uses the term "apple insights" on the site.

A search in Google for "apple insights" (in quotes) gives 18,700 results. As noted above it can take a while to work up the food chain in search results, also you have a small site, the larger a site is the more search engines have to grab onto.

  7. Thanks to both of you for sharing all of this! I just want this to be a casual source of helpful info to Apple users so I am not sure yet what to use for my blog title that is both unique enough to distinguish it and yet common enough to appear in most searches. There two things are pretty exclusive to each other so I am unsure what to do here.

I've currently used the title "Apple FANatic" which is different but not a common search phrase.

I have registered w/webmaster tools and my site is searchable.

  8. You're welcome.

Just waving to say hello and what you posted was right on. :)

  10. @timethief
Hello back. Thanks for the feedback. I am teaching myself WordPress and I part of my education is trying to answer questions here in the forums. I hope I am doing more help than harm.

@auxclass and @timethief Thanks for the additional information. I have learned a lot from both of your responses in this thread and others here are the forums.

You be welcome for the help, so far your answers have been good, no complaints on my part
