The easiest way is to switch from the Rich Text Editor to the standard editor.
Although I can't understand why you want to remove them. They're only there for layout. ;)

Might want it closer to the top of the post I guess. *shrug*
I think WP puts that in there automatically. I have them on mine and I know I'm not adding in a
<p>anywhere. I actually dislike how when I use the blockquote tag and it goes down a couple of lines.Probably would require a rewrite of the code.
