Written in Chrome, Safari, Firefox & IE sidebar display below post

  1. Hi. Please look at laxchair.wordpress.com. I wrote it in Mac Chrome 24.0.1312.57 on a machine running OS X 10.8.2. In Chrome, the right sidebar displays as expected, however the sidebar displays below the post in Mac Safari 6.0.2 (8536.26.17), Mac Firefox 18.0.2 and Win8 IE 10.0.9200.16466.

I've read the help file about this problem and have changed the read option to show only one post at a time and I've found no stray html code in the blog post. Yet, I still have the problem.

Rather than killing more hours on this I thought I'd ask for help. Please help. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is laxchair.wordpress.com.

  2. If you had stray div tags the layout would be messed up no matter what the browser or browser version.

One possible culprit is the image you've used in the Image widget: it's wider than the sidebar, and hosted elsewhere. That's not good practice anyway, and some versions of IE will probably have a problem with this). Copy the image to your computer, use an image editing application or an online tool to scale it down to 200px (that's the width of the sidebar on the theme you're using), upload that version to your blog via Media > Add New, click Edit, copy the File URL, use that URL in the widget.

The other thing is that the theme has a responsive width, and the sidebar drops to the bottom if the browser window is too narrow or the screen resolution too low. Check the theme demo:

  3. Thanks for the suggestions. I tried a lot of things (changing the size of the graphic, browser window size, eliminating elements from the sidebar, etc) and nothing helped. I switched to a different template and the problem was solved. Everything appears as expected in every browser I've used to view the site.

So it seems the problem was with the template itself (Silesia). If anyone else has formatting problems using Silesia, I'd suggest trying another template to see if that resolves the issues.

    Again, thanks for the help.

  4. Hi laxchair, I'm wondering how long you were using the theme before the sidebar showed up at the bottom? I am also having this issue; I have gone through nearly every post, widget, and page and there does not appear to be any issue with HTML coding or image sizing (as I removed all widgets, and slowly added them back one-by-one and problem remained). However, I've been using my current them for nearly 2 years, and this issue has never happened before. Thought I would check to see the length of time you were using yours. Thanks.
