WTF am I supposed to do with this information?

  1. I noticed that you are encouraging the use of Google Webmaster tools as a promotion tool. I have had the code installed for quite a while now, and, curiously, I was following up in the forums as to why you might be encouraging us to use them when in fact they don't work. I get no information in Google analytics for my wordpress.com blog. That they don't work has in the any forum threads.

"It takes time usually 4- 6 weeks for your content to be indexed and appear in search results. Unfortunately your blog is "broken" http://ismyblogworking.com/progettoicarus.wordpress.com You need to report this to Staff. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/"

Generally, I find her replies didactic and not the least bit helpful, but anyway, if i click on the link, it tells me my blog is broken. Well, you might as well throw a box of random jigsaw puzzle pieces from different puzzles at me for as much as this page - and information, is any help at all.

The blog I need help with is dougsamu.wordpress.com.

  3. Hi there,
My response is directly derived from Staff. And I have helped thousands of people over the course of 7 years so your insult amounts to ass-wipe.

  4. As I said, didactic, and not very helpful, and now abusive. Really. You can do better.

  5. re: 504 Gateway Time-out
I tagged this thread for Staff attention. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

  6. You bet I can do better. I can wipe the floor with any troll.

  7. Thank you for your kind attention.

  8. Your most welcome. Gate 504 errors are not very common and Staff will assist you by rectifying this server issue as soon as they can.

  9. I noticed that you are encouraging the use of Google Webmaster tools as a promotion tool.

I don't know what you mean by that. Google and the other search engines and WordPress.com provide a means of verification of blog ownership for indexing purposes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

I get no information in Google analytics for my wordpress.com blog. That they don't work has been pointed out in many forum threads.

    Site Stats - Additional Info
    Can I use Google Analytics?
No, Google Analytics cannot be used on WordPress.com blogs at this time. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#additional-info

  10. And so, then, my question is, what is the purpose of site verification then? What does it do and why would I want to use it? Perhaps I am confused about the purpose of these things?

  11. I think you are and when I have time to I'll return and explain more but there are many threads with bloggers waiting for help so I will help them first.

  12. 1) At the bottom of the Search Engine panel , beneath Total Search Terms, is the line:

"Want a better search rank? Learn how to make a search friendly blog, and how to use search engine webmaster tools."

Click on the link and you get to:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

And I ask Why I would want to do this? What advantage doe s it give me?

Second) I ask why a search for "Google Webmaster Tools" gets me one discussion in the forums, with a link to a page that is completely puzzling as to how it will help me. except to report it to the Staff

    3) when I do that I get abuse.

  13. I have no trouble with Google Webmaster Tools on my blog.

Did you sign up with Google Webmaster Tools?

It doesn't really give you an "advantage", just access to some extra tools provided by Google to see how you're doing in their search engine.

Where are you seeing the 504 error at?

  14. I have no trouble with Google webmaster tools. I get no information about my blog at google analytics in my analytics account. Yes I have signed up for Google webmaster tools.

I have tried re-listing my wordpress blog various times under my Google webmaster account. I never see any information there.

I am not seeing a 504 error anywhere that I can tell. Don't know what it is. Wouldnt know how to fix it if I did. Timethief threw that in. I have no idea where she got it from.

  15. And BTW, I did get Google Analytics for my wordpress.com blog before about the middle of February this year. It's been dead since then.

  16. We have never supported Google Analytics at WordPress.com. There hasn't been a way to add it yet as Google Analytics requires JavaScript, which we don't allow for security reasons, but we do have our own built-in stats system: https://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/

  17. Nonetheless... I was getting stats and information from my wordpress.com blog in my Google analytics account until February, when I played around with some theme variations. My fault. Something I had previously done was allowing that contact and something happened to blow it away. Neither here nor there.

I am not deeply technically inclined. Perhaps my questions aren't clear, because I do not really understand the precise technical words to use to describe what I need. In any case, I still find TimeThief's answers didactic and dismissive. Whatever I said I can't imagine as an insult for her to be so dismissive and abusive of my question. She is the professional here. I think it is amazing that she knows so much stuff and is quick to direct people. I simply find her typed language curt and non-helpful.

Perhaps I was seeing some Google Webmaster information in the Google analytics pages. I don't know. Someone who deals with the technical aspect of this platform does know.

    I asked:

I do not have an answer to that question. Except that:

    re: 504 Gateway Time-out
I tagged this thread for Staff attention...

Well, thank you. It doesn't answer my question. It seems a dismissive pat on the head.

Followed up with "You bet I can do better. I can wipe the floor with any troll."

    Really? I need this abuse?

    Anyway, as you say:

I have no trouble with Google Webmaster Tools on my blog.

Did you sign up with Google Webmaster Tools?

It doesn't really give you an "advantage", just access to some extra tools provided by Google to see how you're doing in their search engine.

Any idea where and how I might access, see, observe, use, these extra tools? What are they? What do they do?

You can access Google Webmaster Tools at https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

It's a service provided and supported by Google.

  19. Okay. I give up.
