www.NBA.com Player Widget. Can we use it in WordPress ?

  1. Hey there,

I have a blog about basketball, so this widget is really useful to me. I tried copy/pasting the code but the widget doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong or is it just not compatible with WordPress?

As an example use this: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/baron_davis/

    It's the blue box down-left.
    Thank you

  2. You need to be more specific about "does not work." What does it do when it fails? What does the code look like?

If it has javascript or embeds, it will never work here at WordPress.com. They are stripped out because we share the backbone of our blogs with everyone else, and a security risk introduced by one person would affect everyone using this platform.

  3. I copy paster the code when I write the post and it shows up as code, nothing else. I am not really into this stuff, I don't if it's java or something else. Anyway this is the code:

    <object width="400" height="314" data="http://widgets.clearspring.com/o/45881d714d8ff0fd/46c13ca96593bfb6/baron_davis/2c3dfa6e" id="W46c13ca96593bfb6" allowScriptAccess="always" allowNetworking="all" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.clearspring.com/o/45881d714d8ff0fd/46c13ca96593bfb6/baron_davis/2c3dfa6e" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /></object>

  4. It's flash. It will be stripped. If they offer an HTML-only version of the widget, that might work.

Best shortcut to finding out if something might work at WordPress, if you don't know HTML, is just to try it. If it fails, probably not. But you can scan the code and if it says any of the following, it'll be a no-go: embed, forms, iframe, javascript, flash.
