XML data trashfer from wordpress.com to wordpress.org not working

  1. I am trying to transfer data from my wordpress.com blog to a newly created wordpress.org blog hosted by godaddy.

After I export the data to XML and attempt to import in the new blog, I get a 500 internal error. The file size is only 2.2mb. If I break the transfer up into pieces, only a few of the images transfers and my blog posts are without their respective images.

    Please help.

    Thank you so much!

    Alan

The blog I need help with is menwhodine.com.

  2. We can only guarantee the quality of the export file, which is fine in this case.

For issues importing to your WordPress.org blog, please contact the folks at http://wordpress.org/support/

  3. I understand what you are saying, however there are over 1200 photos on the site that I am transferring and only 90 are transferred in the XML file.

There is clearly something wrong. I there another method of transfer or is there something you can do to help in this matter?

    Thannk you very much!

  4. Photos are not included in the XML file.

The XML only includes post data. When you choose to also import attached media files, the media files are then brought over.

Your importer is either having an issue fetching the media files, or it is failing during the process.

We really can't do anything here as we only have control over WordPress.com blogs. You'll need to ask at http://wordpress.org/support/

  5. Thank you for the response. I think there is an issue with the XML file coming from wordpress.com. There are about 1200 photos on that site and when I import I get this error in over 1100 files:

    Failed to import Media “DSC_9972”
    Failed to import Media “DSC_9977”
    Failed to import Media “DSC_9991”

About 140 images are able to import out of the 1200.

I have tried splitting the xml file into smaller files and I get the same result and error.

I really need to resolve this a get all of the images exported.

Thank you again for your help and I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Alan

  6. Yes, the error is during the import process, not the export process, so there is nothing we can do.

Have you contacted anyone at http://wordpress.org/support/ yet?

  7. Is there a particular person that you know that I can contact?

    Any help is much appreciated!

    Thanks.

  8. WordPress.org is volunteer developed and volunteer supported, so all help is offered through http://wordpress.org/support/

There is no specific person, but if you post there, someone will be able to help you.
