youtube video no longer available

  1. hi, i recently checked some of the older posts on my wp blog and realized that some youtube video was missing because the user closed thier youtube account. is there a way to prevent this from happening to other posts? does it have to do with the difference between short codes and embedded? do i need to purchase a space upgrade, or video press?

ideally i'd like to have the videos i use, youtube or otherwise, on my blog for as long as my blog exists. is that possible?

    thanks, ac

The blog I need help with is absoluteomnibus.com.

  2. This is a YouTube issue, not a wordpress.com issue. The ONLY way to ensure that all of your videos remain in place is to film them yourself and post them using Videopress and keep backups offline.

ac, when you embed a YouTube video to a blog, the video isn't really on your blog. It's like a link. If you link to a website and that website closes, the link no longer works properly. Were the videos unique to that user? If not, search within YouTube to see if anyone else has posted it. If they were unique to that user, search for the videos using Google Video. That user may be on another video site like Vimeo or Dailymotion and may have uploaded their videos there. Good luck.

  4. Refreshing/replacing dead YouTubes is a routine event on blogs nowadays, particularly as Sony and other copyright owners have started forcing viewers to YouTube, ie the videos are embeddable, but when you try to play them, you just get "please view this on YouTube instead" and no video. They even do this for mashups.
