Bio
Emilio Pasquale does not exist. He is a figment of an overactive imagination, a young man trapped in an old man’s body! A product of the sixties, he survived the Summer Of Love in San Francisco and the business world of New York City before divorce and ill parents led him to Las Vegas, where he now resides in contented retirement. I am he and he is me.
I am happily remarried to Melinda, commonly called Lynn (or babe, or dear, or milady- which she prefers). We have a large extended family with 10 children- all thankfully grown. Educated in the arts, I have recently returned to my first love- photography. I shoot mostly landscapes in and around the southwest United States with occasional forays to parts further east and west.
The name Emilio Pasquale is derived from my grandfather Emilio, and my uncle Pasquale. They, and my grandmother Maria, landed at Ellis Island around 1917. My father was born in Brooklyn, as was the rest of the clan.
The family originated in Fontanarosa, a small town about 1 hour east of Naples, Italy. They settled in New York state. More specifically Brooklyn. As the children grew, married, and had children of their own, they settled in different parts of the Country. Though I was born in Brooklyn, I grew up in Southern California and now reside in the south-west United States. I first picked up a camera to document my passion for the land and the effects of the weather, the way the sun can bleach the color from the earth, when I was only 17.
To document my travels I use a digital camera, but I feel the lack of texture we had with analog cameras decreases the effect I am going for. So I add and play in Lightroom and Topaz Studio.
I have no argument with people who want a reproduction of what the camera sees, without manipulation of any kind. But with every choice you make; the type of lens, the use of filters, the aperture, or the setting of the camera, aren’t you manipulating the image? Therefore, I reproduce an image with whatever is at my disposal, so that the viewer can see what I want them to see.
Sometimes the titles of the photos might seem arbitrary, or even meaningless . But in my mind I have quotes to accompany each, and this is where the title comes from.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy.
