Ability for Authors to Edit Their Comments

Is there a way on a wordpress.com hosted blog for users with Author status to edit their own comments in a post that they did not write?
I have heard there are plugins that allow this but plugins can’t be used on wordpress.com hosted blogs.
If I give them Editor status, they could edit comments, but they could also mess with other peoples stuff. I don’t suppose I could configure the roles to achieve the goal in the first line of this post.

The blog I need help with is outsidethedodgers.wordpress.com.

No. I’m sorry but they can’t.
An author can edit, publish and delete their posts, as well as upload files/images. http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

You heard correctly. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install individual plugins http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/

Oops! I put a blockquote on the wrong paragraph. Sorry but there is no ability to reconfigure the user roles that are set to suit your intention.

One small comment, authors can also edit any comment made on their posts.
