Ability to ‘Surf’ random WP.com blogs as a way of finding new cool blogs

While I hate most everything about Blogger, one if it’s fun features is the ability to click randomly surf through other Blogger blogs to see what else is out there. It’s nice to see what other people are doing with the blogging platform, and a great way to find new blogs that you might not otherwise have discovered. It would be wonderful if WP.com incorporated this into the admin header that displays at the top of every wp.com blog when you’re logged into the system.

Obviously, it’s also a great time killer – there is a reason why people love to channel surf — and the tantalizing idea of you never know what you’re going to come across has it’s own level of appeal.

I was thinking the same thing, and I guess what you could use is the the fastest growing blogs, and the newest posts in the dashboard to find some new blogs to read.

Not quite random, but the blogs that appear on the first page here seem to change often enough: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:wordpress.com&btnG=Google+Search

btw, this also shows ALL 922 wordpress.com blogs. 99.2 Google results pages. Crazy.

I came across this one the other day:

Strongly disagree. I used to use Blogger’s next random blog but quickly gave up after seeing a steady stream of porn and spam blogs.

I much prefer WP’s Most Popular Posts/Blogs (which tend towards quality), Fastest Growing and Just Updated (which essentially is random).

Good hint about Google search for WP blogs though. Thanks.

Actually after Blogger introduced the “Flag” function, that took care of most of the spam and stuff, so it’s pretty useful now.

Might I suggest a networking capability, a way to browse other blogs with similar interests, perhaps this could be done through profiling with key words or somthing. The ability to add people to your personal network and have it visible to others would be cool.

I think that the random blog idea is great and that andreweglinton’s idea is also pretty good. Might I further suggest that you can possibly use the catergory for each blog entry to connect the blogs together. Anyways keep up the good work!
