If you have the free basic wordpress, You have to buy what they provide. The only way to add themes of your own is if you have your own web server, for example bluehost.

Unless you have designed them, you can’t.

I imagine you have to convince the staff that it is brilliant and original enough for them to vet and add to the themes. I really have no idea though so I’ll flag this for staff attention.

Do you really have the technical skills to design a WordPress theme, much less a Wp.com theme? http://themeshaper.com/2012/10/22/the-themeshaper-wordpress-theme-tutorial-2nd-edition/

There is not a way to submit premium themes to the WordPress.com shop online yet, but you can start by making sure the themes you have developed meet the guidelines posted at http://developer.wordpress.com/themes/ so you’ll be ready in the future! You might also consider submitting a free version of one of your themes to the WordPress.org Theme Directory at http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ as a good starting off point to show off your work.

If you think your themes are the best in the world :) and already meet all of the coding guidelines linked above, you can email (email redacted) to ask for more information about premium theme partnerships.
