Add my own domain to the blog.
WordPress.com will seamlessly strip out the www. for your convenience. www is an old protocol from back when everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.
These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.
To be clear WordPress.com will not domain map to your domain name from a free hosted WordPress.com blog for you free of charge. The subscription for domain mapping is $13.00 per year for one blog.
If you would like to use your domain name purchased elsewhere and map from your free hosted wordpress.com blog to it, then you will first need to set up domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
thanks for your help.
As you can see I’m not an expert on this themes, so I would need a very simple explanation. I know I have to pay 13$ for the mapping, and I understand that if someone writes luislinares.org it will redirect to my blog. In this case, in the URL space of his explorer, what URL will appear?
Is it luislinares.org or is it linaresluis.wordpress.com?
Great! Thanks very much.
I have learnt some things. After I will read again the topic for understand the rest of things you told me.
Thanks again and have a good day.
