Howdy! I’m trying to add a badge to the sidebar of my WordPress site – I belong to a group of niche bloggers, they have a badge – but I cannot figure out how to add it!

The site provided me an embed code – so…where do I put it?

Thanks so much for your help!

The blog I need help with is thepetmom.me.

    Hi Anne,

You can add your own code to your sidebar using a Text Widget. (You can add that widget in your site’s Customizer, in the Widgets area.)

However, some embed code doesn’t work here at WordPress.com, for security reasons. If you have trouble adding your embed code to a text widget, please let me know! You can paste the code in your reply and I can take a look at it for you.

    Hi Rachel –
Thx for the quick reply! I was searching for “badge” which is why I missed it. : )
OK so I’m halfway there, it seems. I pasted in the embed code – and it adds “Visit the blogpaws community” which is great (that’s the name of the place I have a badge for), but it doesn’t show the actual badge, and is not linkable.
Oh, and I tried doing a click-save on the pic of the badge on their site – that doesn’t work either.
So good news: found the text widget, bad news – I still don’t have my badge, lol

Here is the embed code, if you wouldn’t mind taking a look?

    <embed wmode=”opaque” src=”http://static.ning.com/socialnetworkmain/widgets/index/swf/badge.swf?xn_version=124632088″ FlashVars=”backgroundColor=0xFFFF33&textColor=0x000000&config=http%3A%2F%2Fcommunity.blogpaws.com%2Fmain%2Fbadge%2FshowPlayerConfig%3Fxg_source%3Dbadge%26size%3Dmedium%26username%3D1vltxstswu91a” width=”206″ height=”174″ bgColor=”#FFFF33″ scale=”noscale” allowScriptAccess=”always” allowFullScreen=”true” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” pluginspage=”http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer”> </embed>

My site is thepetmom.me – if you need access from me, let me know. :)

Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi Anne,

As I feared, that embed code uses code that isn’t allowed at WordPress.com — any of the code that isn’t allow will be automatically stripped out of the widget.

If you can’t save the picture of the badge by right-clicking on it, you might want to contact someone on the site to see if it’s ok to get a picture of it another way. For example, you can make a screenshot of the badge and use an image editing program to edit it. Another option could be to create your own image to use, instead.

Once you have an image, you can use the Image Widget to put the image on your site and link it to where you want it to go.

    I hope this helps! :)

Hi Rachel – thank you so much for taking the time to help. I’ll see if I can do the screenshot thing. :)

Thanks for all the help – I did learn something (the text widget – woo hoo!)

    Best,
    Anne
