I have the coding for a widget to add, but unsure where to actually put it. Its being given to me by an advertiser. I looked through the links and widget section but was still unclear where to actually type the text. If anyone could assist, I’d appreciate it

    thanks (newbie!)

Which advertisers are your referring to? Whether or not you have a domain as I do for my blogs is irrelevent. The ToS and the policies apply to all free hosted WordPress.com bloggers. We cannot purchase any upgrade that provides us with the ability to run blogger initiated advertising on free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

There is an advertising program called WordAds. It’s for well established blogs on their own domains, with suitable content and 20,000 page views or more monthly.

If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising and/or affiliate links you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org Refer to > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
