If they do not yet have an account here at wordpress.com, then they will not yet appear. For wordpress to keep track of who can and cannot access your blog, the people have to have a wordpress.COM account (they don’t need a blog here, just an account (username and password).
You need to find out if the people you want to add have an account here. If they do, get their username and add it.
Is it possible just to make it password protected. So I give them a password to be able to access the blog. I have 3 blogs. It is not my primary blog. So my username and password is the same for all three. Can I make one blog password protected?
