adding pictures to comments
can i comment on someone blog and put a photo in the comment. i tried html and copy/paste but neither worked.
You cannot add pictures or videos to comments on a WordPress.com blog.
It’s such a shame that this isn’t allowed. Would be so much better to be able to reply to a question or comment made with a picture rather than having to link outside, sending someone away from your blog. Blog owners (but not general commenters) should be allowed to do this. it would make such a difference. I hope they change this one day.
It is for security reason.
You can add a link to a picture
There are absolutely no security issues involved. I’m not saying general commenters, just the owners. It is ridiculous to have to send people away from your blog when just being able to add an image would do it. Also, not all images have a link. if someone asks me about a detail of a picture, instead of easily being able to add a close up in the comments, I have to describe it in words, or load the picture onto flickr and link to it.
Not being able to add images to comments is the first thing i would change if I had the chance. very overdue.
Frankly, I think it may be a bandwidth conservation issue. Officially, we have unlimited bandwidth, but I gather image hosting is a bit of a cost centre for WP.com, and this could well be just to reduce the cost.
Then again, you CAN embed a virus in a jpeg, so it could be security.
But couldn’t I put a virus in a jpeg in a post? I’m trying to find out if it is possible to do in a .org blog. I would very reluctantly move to self hosting if it is possible, which i really don’t want to do.
Yes, it’s possible. I did it today. But it wasn’t easy: I put it in and it showed in the preview, but then it vanished when I hit Submit Comment. I had to go in as admin of the blog and put it in the Edit Comment, and then it stayed.
Yes rainy. That’s exactly what I would like to do. I don’t want to have to do all the rest of the self hosting stuff though. Thanks. good to know it can be done.
