    I am trying to set up a Twitter “Follow Me” button to the sidebar of my blog.

    The directions I have found everywhere (which I have followed to the letter) are:

    -Copy code for desired “Follow Me” button from the Twitter website;
    -In WP, drag a Text widget to the sidebar;
    -Paste code;
    -Save.

    This is what I have done, but the button is not showing up on my website. It’s as if I have done nothing at all. What’s going wrong?

    Note that what’s stated is WP and that means the code is for wordpress.ORG installs. It’s not for wordpress.com free hosted blog which run on different software.

    Basically all one needs is an image that they link to their Twitter profile page and the code needs to be placed into a text widget. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/text-widget-links/ Alternatively we can use an image widget > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/image-widget/

    First of all, I am indeed using WP via my web hosting service. Should I direct this problem to them?

    If this is the right forum, I will continue…

    I feel like I’m doing everything correctly, but that does not appear to be the case.

    Which of my steps I listed above could be the problem?

    This is the exact code I am pasting into the Text Widget:

    <img src=”http://twitter-badges.s3.amazonaws.com/follow_me-a.png” alt=”Follow megameyer on Twitter”/>

    Don’t use that code.

    Use the prefab Twitter Widget here OR just make a text widget and upload that image you want and link it to your profile page.

    Thefree hosted wordpress.COM blog linked to your username is empty. There are two wordpress sites and two different kinds of wordpress software. Read this please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ and this applies to wordpress.COM free hosted blogs > http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
    If the blog in quation is a free hosted wordpress.COM blog and not a wordpress.ORG install then the code you are using is being stripped out by wordpress.COM software. Why? Because the code is for wordpress.ORG installs.

    Wow. There are a lot of Twitter Widgets to choose from among the WP plugins!

    Can I get a recommendation?

    There is no FTP access to free hosted wordpress.COM blogs
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    We cannot upload any plugins into wordpress.com free hosted blogs
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

    The Twitter widget we can use on wordpress.COM free hosted blogs is found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/twitter-widget/

    Ack! I activated the Twitter Widget Pro, put it in my sidebar, plugged in my info, but…

    I still see nothing on my page!

    There must be some crucial step I am overlooking…

    Nope. I’ve tried installing the plain “Twitter Widget” plugged in my info and I still see nothing.

    @megameyer-Neither can we because we still don’t know which blog you are trying to put the twitter widget in. As tt already pointed out, the blog linked to your username is empty. So how bout we start with the link to your blog, including the http:// part?

    @timethief, Yes, I did. Please consider that my particular issues might not have been addressed by those links, but I very much appreciate your having dug them up for my use. Thank you.

    However, I checked with my host server yesterday about the FTP connection. They told me I shouldn’t have a problem with WP plugins anymore.

    In experimenting with different themes, I found that the Twitter Widget works in some and not others. That means I am perfectly capable, under certain circumstances, of using plugins — my problem was elsewhere.

    @justjennifer, Thanks for letting me know. I’ll looking into why my blog and username aren’t properly linked.

    Here’s how to link your wordpress.com username to your active wordpress.com blog. Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.

    Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

    Since there is no FTP access nor can we install plugins on WordPress.com, my conclusion from the above statement is that you are in the wrong forum. This forum is for blogs on the hosted service, WordPress.com. From the sound of it, you need to be looking for help over at the site for self-hosted blogs running the WordPress.org software. http://wordpress.org/support/
