  1. Hello all,

I had a question about advertisements. I made the move from Tumblr to WordPress in April of this year, and back when I was on Tumblr I had a decent following (about 10,000 unique visitors). I didn't have any ads on my Tumblr page, however. When I first moved to WordPress I hadn't seen ads on my page/been contacted to use ads, but now when I surf my site I see that ads have been added on (, scroll down and you'll see it). Do ads come with WordPress pages after you generate a certain amount of traffic? Are we supposed to be told/asked when we can let ads be used on our page? Just curious.

The blog I need help with is

  2. To support the service (and keep free features free), we sometimes run advertisements, and the agreement for this has been in our terms of service since 2006.

We try hard to only run them in limited places. If you would like to completely eliminate ads from appearing on your blog, we offer the No-Ads Upgrade:

  3. has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

Staff say ads are shown occasionally and we don't know exactly what the means in terms of frequency. There is an advertising program called WordAds but aside from it no blogger iniated advetsising is allowed on blogs.

  4. I failed to click "refresh". :(
