    Hello,

I use the free WordPress plan to create an e-portfolio for when I apply for jobs. However, I can’t seem to align pictures with words properly and they end up looking really bad on my site. e.g. https://heizeline.wordpress.com/education/

I’m not sure where the problem lies as the HTML code and settings seem correct. Is there a way to fix this issue?

I’d also like to know if I can customise my own colours for the theme and learn how to create columns in my posts.

Would really appreciate some guidance, thank you!

The blog I need help with is heizeline.wordpress.com.

    Hi heizeline,

I can’t seem to align pictures with words properly

It looks like you want to display a logo on the left, with text to the right. If that’s the case, I think the column block would be better suited to that as the paragraph and image blocks aren’t really designed to stack in the way they are currently being used. Columns can be added with these steps:

    1. Go to the page editor
    2. Click +
    3. Scroll down to Layout Elements
    4. Choose Columns
    5. In the left column, click + and choose an image
    6. In the right column, add the text

You can then click on the column icon underneath to add a new column without needing to repeat all of the steps above.

I’d also like to know if I can customise my own colours for the theme

There are options for customising site colours in My Sites > Customise > Colours & Backgrounds. Any changes beyond that would need to be made with custom CSS (a feature of our Premium and Business plans).

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Gemma,

Thanks for the help! I’ve made the changes but is there a way to adjust the width of each column? I’d like to make the text column wider than the logo column.

Also, how do I manually select the crop area for the scrolling featured photos in the blog page? For example, as seen on my homepage, the main focus of the featured photo on my first post is cut off..

I’d recommend cropping the images prior to uploading and setting them as featured. Center your subjects and you should be alright with this theme.

The column block isn’t set up that way yet (it’s still a fairly new feature) but I think in your case it would look just fine if you align the images to the right. Want to try that?

    Hi Supernovia,

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I did try aligning them to the right initially but it looked weird as it was too close to the text. I’ll just leave them as it is then since there isn’t any current solution at the moment. Thank you!
