Archive blog posts

  1. Is there a way I can archive all the blogs currently on my site without removing them as such? I would like them to be available to be read, but not as they are now on display on the front page when you get to my blog as I want to start over with a new subject without deleting the old.

The blog I need help with is ouidepuis.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi @ouidepuis1,

You should be able to create an archive of your blog using the Archives shortcode. Here is a support document that covers it:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/archives-shortcode/

Let me know if that works for you! :)

  3. @ouidepuis1,

Hi. The suggestion by @nixiach8 to use Archives shortcode to create an archive of your past blog posts is a good one, but the blog page will still display the old posts on the front page unless you take some action regarding that. There's only one blog page per WordPress.com site, so you can't stop one blog page and start another.

If you want to hide the older posts as you begin to create new ones on a different subject, you could proceed along one of the following courses:

    1. Temporarily reduce the posts per pages setting, gradually increasing the number until you have enough posts published to fill the front page. The present setting calls for the display of 15 posts per page on the blog page and archives pages. This setting may be changed at My Site(s) > Settings > Writing > Content Types > Blog posts "Display __ blog posts per page."

    2. Display a static page instead of the blog page on the front page -- see the Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) support page -- and insert Display Posts Shortcode into that page, limiting the posts displayed to those assigned a certain category or categories, or bypassing earlier posts with the "offset" argument. Links to Category Pages may be displayed in a Custom Menu. The blog page may be displayed on another page.

  4. @musicdoc1 thank you for the great detail! *updates notes in head* I am always learning and this is a great item :)

  5. @nixiack8,

    You're welcome. : )

  6. Thanks so much, both of you! I added an archives page as well as changed the settings for the number of blog posts. That was exactly what I wanted :)

It took me a little while to figure out because the setting is actually under 'reading' not 'writing', but I got there in the end!

    Let the writing begin...

  7. Excellent! Glad to have helped :)

  8. @oiudepuis1,
    You're welcome!

The posts per page setting is at Settings > Writing in the My Site(s) or Calypso interface, and at Settings > Reading in the WP Admin dashboard.
