Are links in the Ari theme broken?

    I recently noticed that when I insert a link in a post it doesn’t show up properly in my completed post i.e. they are highlighted in blue but not underlined. I noticed this because there are no clicks of my links registering on my stats page.
    The theme I’m using is Ari. Is anyone else having this problem?

    The blog I need help with is mysmallsurrenders.wordpress.com.

    In this post mysmallsurrenders.wordpress.com/2015/10/09/sow-togethers-shocking-suicide-statement/ the links are colored and become underlined when I hover my cursor over them.

    I also see this in the Ari demo (link underlining when hovering cursor over the link) https://aridemo.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/the-beginning-of-wordpress/

    Is that not what you are seeing or experiencing? I’m using Chrome (latest) on Win7Pro

    Thanks for responding justjennifer.

    I noticed that in other themes you don’t have to hover over the text to know that it’s a link i.e. the text is coloured and underlined without having to hover over it.

    In other themes you see both the coloured text and highlight without hovering.

    I’m wondering if that’s why my stats aren’t showing any clicks on the links I post??? Although I recognized it could just be that no one is interested in reading the info behind the link :)

    I’m using Mozilla FireFox with Windows 8.1

    There are themes where the link changes color on hover or add an underline or maybe even seem to pop-up. Link behavior is dependent on the theme’s styling.

    I’ve clicked on a link in your October 8th post, so hopefully that will show up in your stats at some point. Having no clicks on any posts whatsoever does seem strange and if you don’t see any clicks on any posts at all over a week, that would be worthy of opening a separate forum thread.

    Regardless, if you think that something has changed on your theme and you would like Staff assistance, please do add the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section in this forum thread’s sidebar.

    Staff are away until Oct. 21st, but are looking in on the forums from time to time, so you may not get a quick answer to your question.

    Thanks for the advice.

    I have an extremely low all-time click stat. As I said earlier, it did seem strange but I just put it down to people only reading the post but not necessarily interested in reading the additional information. However, after the post I put up yesterday it really stuck out to me.

    Thanks again :)

    Hi there, just to confirm, nothing has changed recently in the Ari theme. If you’d like to make your default links underlined, that could be done with some custom CSS, which comes with the Premium or Business plan.

    For example, this would make the links underlined by default and then turn them purple when you hover over them:

    .entry-content a:link {
      text-decoration: underline;
    }
    .entry-content a:hover {
      color: #bb00bb;
    }

    kathrynwp,
    Thanks for your help.
    I wasn’t sure what was happening, but thanks for the clarification.
    Until I decide how permanent I want to make this blog, I’ll have to come up with another idea to make my links more obvious.
    Thanks again,
    MSS

    Hi kathrynwp,

    I realized after thinking about it for a bit that your statement “nothing has changed recently in the Ari theme” is not entirely true.

    When I first started using Ari some months ago, it no longer had underline under the text without hovering. In addition, when you hovered over the link in the post it would show you the “Link Text” title. . I’m not sure when it stopped doing these things.

    So even though the text might show as a different colour in the post now, there is no link underline like I see in the post of other site’s posts and there is no longer anything obvious about it that indicates that it is a link when you hover over it.

    Thanks.

    I’m not sure why link colour/underlining in Ari were different when you first started using it, as I double-checked the theme’s development history and there haven’t been any changes that would account for that.

    In addition, when you hovered over the link in the post it would show you the “Link Text” title. . I’m not sure when it stopped doing these things.

    It sounds like you’re describing a Core WordPress change. That hover text is called the “title” attribute” on anchor tags (links) and it used to be something available within the WordPress editor, but was removed around May 2015 across the core WordPress software. If you like the title attribute on your links, you can still switch to the HTML/Text editor to add it, like this:

    <a href="http://wordpress.com" title="This is a little tooltip describing my link>WordPress</a>

    So even though the text might show as a different colour in the post now, there is no link underline like I see in the post of other site’s posts and there is no longer anything obvious about it that indicates that it is a link when you hover over it.

    When you hover over links in Ari, you should see an underline on the linked words.

    there is no link underline like I see in the post of other site’s posts

    If you prefer your links to be underlined by default, you can either add one with custom CSS, as I mentioned earlier, or choose a theme whose links are underlined by default.
