Are Post URLs changed after transferring from .com to .org?

    Hi all,

Let’s say I create a monster blog post on my .com account that gets tons of hits and is linked all over the internet. If I transfer to a .org account will the URL for that blog entry be changed as well? Or will the old link be redirected to the new .org URL? Thanks in advance for any help!

The blog I need help with is

If and only if you purchase a domain mapping upgrade or you purchase a site redirect upgrade the URLs seamlessly redirect to domain URLs. If you don’t purchase one or the other then the answer is “no”.

The reason we purchase domain mapping is so that all the URLs from the root blog when clicked seamlessly redirect to the same content in the post under the new domain URLs.

The pagerank and authority the blog earned was earned by the URLs and belongs to them. It’s not transferable. so what that means is the domain starts from zero. In about 4 – 6 months time the content will all be re-indexed by search engines under the domain URLs and all things being equal the blog will probably have the same pagerank and authority it had prior to purchasing domain mapping.

If you do not renew your domain mapping then all those domain URL’s are broken and the blog reverts to the old URLs. Then all those broken links are there for months until the search engines like Google index them again under the URLs and clear their caches (3 – 6 months).

You also need to have your .ORG install configured correctly for the domain mapping or forwarding.

You might also review the Terms of Service before you get too far along.

No blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM

The advertising exceptions noted in support documentation are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the WordAds program, and for extremely high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program. The WordAds Program is for well established blogs with 20,000 – 25,000 page views monthly that apply for and are accepted into the program.

If you hire a web host and set up your own self hosted install from those restrictions will not apply.

Thanks very much for your replies timethief and auxclass. So it seems if I have any ambitions of this particular scenario happening, I’m better off hosting a .org site from the beginning. Thanks again for the help!
