ARI THEME: Widening

    I’m using the Ari theme, and I’d like to move the primary and secondary sidebars out farther, leaving more space for my posts to be wider.

    Right now the column for my posts is very narrow and there is a lot of dead, wasted space on the edges outside the sidebars.

    How do I do this? Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is

    How much white space is to the right and left of the main column of content depends on the width of a visitor’s browser and/or device they are viewing your site on. The easiest way to widen things, and keep the responsive nature of the theme you are using is to increase the maximum width in #page with the following CSS (960px is the default).

    #page {
        max-width: 1060px;

    The main content column and sidebar are set with a percentage width, so they will widen as you widen #page.

    This helped; thank you!

    Is there a way to decrease the amount of white space between the primary sidebar and the main content column? I’m not sure if that’s a margin, or “padding” – there appears to be a lot of dead space there that I’d like to be taken up by my main content.

    You can try the following, which narrows the gap between the left sidebar and the content, but 72.75 seems about the most you can go (it was 68.75%) because it starts to interfere with the stuff on the left as the browser window gets narrowed. Give it a try and narrow and widen your browser window to see how things look

    #main {
        position: relative;
        width: 72.75%;
        z-index: 1000;

    Perfect. Thanks again!

    You are welcome.
