ART PRODUCTS STORE & Donations/sponsoring of Artists

  1. Hi Everyone,

I'm Ann from ARTMILL-France. I'm in the process of launching a Contemporary ShowPlace in a century-old watermill in the Cathar Mountains in the South of France. I'm so glad I discovered WordPress it is absolutely great and I moved my site from France to here. It is excellent.

I would like to 1/ add a store to offer artsy products, paper reproductions, books, posters etc. 2/ give art lovers the ability to a/sponsor an artist b/donate or c/publicize in one way or another (other than 'share' on social networks).

Do WordPress offer a free store? if so where can I find it -
If not do you know of a good and easy free store I could link to my site please and how to link it if it is on a different platform?

Please have a look at my site - any feedback is welcome ([email redacted]) - thanks so much.

The blog I need help with is

  2. You cannot use ecommerce features on a WordPress.COM site. You can on a WordPress.ORG site. Additionally, the types of blogs allowed here do not include resellers. Artists and authors can use a WP.COM site to sell their own creation, but you cannot use it to sell supplies that you have not created yourself. You may be happier with a blog and independent hosting.

  3. Thank you for your prompt response dear Raincoaster. As I own my .com does it mean I need to buy a .org and shift the work I've already done to the .org?

Would you know of a good free store on an independent host please ?

    Thanks, Ann

  4. WordPress.ORG has a list of good hosts; I know Timethief uses A Small Orange and is very happy with them.

Owning a domain name doesn't exempt you from the restrictions here; it only gives you your own name. YOu can simply point that URL to your new blog when you get an independent host. Then you can simply Export the contents of this blog and Import them to the next one. It's not that difficult.

  5. .com or .org on the end of your domain name does not matter. What matters is that you will have to self-host a wordpress installation on a third-party hosting service. You can use your existing domain name with that new site.

  6. Thank you! I'll look into it right away. :-)

  7. I love the theme you selected for your blog... It looks absolutely great!

  8. Thanks!
