Assisted Migration from WordPress.com to WordPress.org not available for my blog

  • Hello! I need to move my blog to WordPress.org so it can be self-hosted and I can advertise, run giveaways, etc without violating TOS. I was reading about the supported migration option WordPress offers and when I went to purchase it, it said “Upgrade Not Available” for my blog, The Little Foxes. Anyone know why or what the deal is? I’d like to get this migration done asap and am willing to pay WordPress to do it.

Moreover, I also have a Premium package, but I am always still seeing the “Go Premium” in my dashboard. What gives?

  • For the purposes of people who can answer this finding this – WordPress.com isn’t allowing me to use a “Happiness Expert” to guide my .com blog to a .org blog. Wondering why. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • Hi there,

It looks like you have two blogs, but the Premium bundle is only purchased/activated for one of them, so it’s possible you will see the upgrade suggestion on your other blog.

If you wish to purchase Guided Transfer for thelilfoxes.wordpress.com, I will need to deactivate your Premium bundle in order for your upgrade to go through. After your site transfer, if you wish to reactivate it, I can make that happen or the GT team can do so. (This would not affect your domain).

  • Hi Jackie. Thanks for the response. I would love to do the Guided Transfer, I just have a few more questions before we proceed:

Would I be able to keep the URL: http://www.thelilfoxes.com?
Would I be charged again if we reactivate the Premium Bundle, or will my current subscription just be reinstated?
Will all of my content (including sidebars, links, widgets, and theme) transfer over (I have the Forever Theme)?
How long would the entire transfer take? (I’m holding off on posting content until it a transition is complete)

Thanks and I hope to hear from you and get this going soon! :)

  • Hi littlebitofshlee,

You will be able to keep the URL. You can either continue to use it on your WordPress.com site or use it on your new site, as you choose.

You will not be charged again to reinstate the bundle. It just needs to be deactivated so the Guided Transfer option is available to purchase.

The Guided Transfer team will move your site content to the new host. They should be able to install Forever for you as well.

The transfer process is relatively fast once you and one of our Guided Transfer folks set up a mutually agreed upon time, but the full turnaround time may vary depending on how full their schedule is when you purchase the upgrade.

  • Awesome! Let’s do it. Do I need to have a host site to migrate it to? I have another website I run, could I move it to that host?

  • Hi again,

You should review the information on our Guided Transfer documentation, including the list of hosting providers:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

You will need to choose one of our recommended partners for Guided Transfer.

I have temporarily removed your Premium bundle, so you should now be able to purchase the upgrade. Let me know when that is done and I’ll restore it for you.

  • Awesome. I signed up with HostGator and entered my URL. So, we’re good to go. Would you be the Happiness Engineer who will be doing my migration?

  • No, we have a separate crew that handles Guided Transfer.

Please let me know when you’ve purchased Guided Transfer and I’ll add your upgrade back afterwards.

  • Okay, just so I’m clear: I need to cancel or suspend my Premium Account for http://www.thelilfoxes.com, and then purchase the Guided Transfer (because it won’t let me otherwise)? Also, will I lose my URL if I deactivate the Premium?

  • I have already temporarily deactivated Premium, and no, you will not lose your domain. You should now be able to purchase Guided Transfer.
