August 8th WordPress.com Outage
WordPress.com was down from about 7am – 9am UTC, Sunday, August 8th.
One of our three major datacenters was taken offline for scheduled emergency maintenance. Shortly thereafter, a second datacenter went down because of hardware failure in a core piece of infrastructure. With two out of three datacenters offline, WordPress.com couldn’t function.
We’re still experiencing intermittent problems as we continue to recover from this simultaneous outage, but most things should be working.
Naturally, no one cares more about your content than you, but we’re a very close second. We apologize for the downtime and are working hard to clean up any leftover problems.
The Discussion Settings page is also not working. It does not let you make save changes to the default settings, specifically disabling the comment box feature.
Your attendtion to this is greatly appreciated.
Not sure if it’s related but my Dashboard is all messed up in Firefox as of early morning today. When I click on Widgets nothing will work it just sits there as though the page is loading but never does. The list of options on the left side of my Dashboard has a bunch of double entries. WordPress does appear to be working correctly in IE.
indiavisits and runnerduck. I think I’ve fixed your specific problems.
Nope, mine is still acting weird in FireFox. It’s sort of like what ever was bad is now stuck and I can’t seem to refresh it. I even restarted my computer and it still shows the double entries on the left column and Widgets won’t load.
runnerduck, hm. Everything works for me. Could you upload a screenshot somewhere and link to it here?
Here ya go, http://www.runnerduck.com/images/wordpress.jpg
Note the truncated icons near the top and the triple selections on the right.
runnerduck, I don’t suppose clearing your cache and cookies magically solves the problem?
mdawaffle, you da man! I don’t know what happened or if it was related to the earlier problems of the day but clearing the cache and cookies did the trick.
Thanks a bunch!
How do I clear the cache and cookies for indiatraveladventure? Sorry I am very new at this and still unable to delete the comment box on my pages despite going into Screen options and the Discussion Setting page.
Thank you so much for looking into this.
my account keeps defaulting to imdb.com… does this issue fall under what you guys are fixing?
when I post to my blog and have it placed in it’s appropriate category and subcategories, it does not go into my drop-down caterogries I have listed on my page, as well as I am unable to correct my time zone, it does not do anything when I click UTC-5 for central time. Do the system being down have something to do with this as well?
ghalf, edit the page with the comment box (Admin -> Pages -> edit the page with the comment box). Under the “Discussion” box, uncheck “allow comments”.
gogopance, as far as we know everything is fixed. If you’re experiencing a problem, please open a new topic here on the forums. Your site looks fine to me.
My tags aren’t working. Any suggestions to solve the problem. I can’t add tags to my posts and I am not able to add them to the box before posting. Any help you may have to solve the problem would be appreciated.
I use Google chrome, I think I prefer FireFox, nonetheless the strikethrough feature is not working and I also cannot save edited posts.
When will our stats be back up?
I cleaned out my cookies and cache, but it didn’t change anything. Still having problems with double buttons, frozen commands, you name it.
sitdeskwrite – did you restart your browser?
Clearing my cache and cookies and restarting my browser did not help. Any timeline for issues to be resolved?
When will support come back online?
