Best template for a website

I work for a not for profit company and we want to use wordpress.COM to create a website. I know this has been done before and it is the best tool for us as we don’t have anyone with developer skills. I am >not< confusing this with wordpress.ORG

I am looking for a template that would work well as website – easy top menu (not interested in a side menu) with multiple sub-menus as well. The ability to use slideshows is important. The main thing is, we don’t want it to look like a blog.

I looked at the premium DEBUT theme and I like it but I worry it is too picture heavy and will be hard to convert into a normal looking website.

Any suggestions on themes that would be appropriate? Interested in free or premium themes.

The blog I need help with is

Hi, did you find solution to your question above? I am trying to do the same for my non-profit. I have started using Skylark theme which has great features but keep running into issues of post versus page. It is lot of arm twisting.

I purchased Debut. It is great because it has a lot of visuals which is a great thing to add to a website. It also has great options to create custom menus and distinguish between blog posts and home page posts, as well as create pages and turn off comments etc.

I am really happy with it!

May I ask you a question since my challenges are probably the same as yours. On home page, below the slider, were you able to put content – maybe images – in grid without saying “Read more.” And when they are clicked on, goes to pages and not posts?

To make it clearer, I am trying to put buttons or links for Donate, Join, etc. and they need to link to pages, not post format.

I used Quintus – was in similar boat. check it out!
