I own the public URL for domesticcharm.com (my current one is plural with an ‘s’) but can’t use that blog within WordPress because someone has it already. The blog has a Hello World post from 2009 but hasn’t been used since. Is there any expiration on these where I might be able to obtain it if someone isn’t using it? Any help is definitely appreciated!
The blog I need help with is domesticcharms.wordpress.com.
There is ni expuration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account
edit: no expiration **headesk**
I have exactly the same question. In my case, there is a blog using the name of a new iPhone I’m about to release. The blog has 1 hello world post from 6 years ago. Obviously I’ll try to contact the owner, but I’m not optimistic. WordPress has no “use it or lose it” policy to cover this? There are probably many thousands of good blog names in limbo like this.

That’s correct. Also note that deleting a blog is forever, the URL cannot be recycled and reused. That’s why 3 warnings are given and why a vertfication link in an email that must be clicked is sent in order to accomplish deletion.
