Blog Stats – Views

  • Could someone please clarify exactly what the “number of views” means on my Blog Stats page?

Is it the number of individuals who enter my blog? Or is it ehe number of times pages of my blog are read? Is views the same as unique visitors?

And having just started this last week I am curious to know what is a decent target number. I know that’s like asking how long is a piece of string but what is the average number of views for a one-week old blog? For a month-old blog?

    Thanks, Andrew

  • views always mean the number of hits your blog gets. our blog stats don’t measure unique visitors.

there isn’t a target for hits. if you’re good you may be featured in blogs of the day – http://botd.wordpress.com

what’s more important is to build the content (and update regularly) – the hits will naturally come that way. =)

  • There are so many different kinds of blogs. I don’t believe numbers are obtainable or even if they were if they would be relevant. Popularity is where hits come from and your blog can’t become popular unless you focus on what sulz pointed to:

    Quality Content and Regular Posting

    Blog Promotion
If you want to be sure you’ve covered the bases when it comes to blog promotion then these will be helpful http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/15/more-traffic/ http://pimpmyblog.wordpress.com

We have multiple threads in the forum search box on increasing traffic to your blog. From time to time we start another one and simply reiterate everything that’s been said before.

    In a nutshell:
    (1) Promoting your wordpress.com blog will be more effective if you edit your profile and link your wordpress.com username to your wordpress.com blog.

    (2) Promoting your wordpress.com blog will be more effective if you regularly post high quality, original content posts to your blog.

    (3) Promoting your wordpress.com blog will be more effective if you tag your posts with categories that are specific to your blogging topics.

    (4) Promoting your wordpress.com blog will be more effective if you invest time and energy into leaving meaningful comments on other blogs, in forums and on websites related to your blogging topics.

  • Thanks for those answers.

Two further questions, if I may:

    1) Promoting your wordpress.com blog will be more effective if you edit your profile and link your wordpress.com username to your wordpress.com blog. How do I do that?

    2) Promoting your wordpress.com blog will be more effective if you tag your posts with categories that are specific to your blogging topics. I’ve been to the tags pages and there is now clear explanation of how I go about doing this. Can you enlighten me?

    Thanks again…
