I want to transfer my blog from Blogger to WordPress. Do I have to do it all manually, post by post, or is there an easier way?

More importantly, I have a unique domain name for my Blogger (i.e. a .net, not a .blogspot) — can I transfer this to my WordPress blog? How?

    (1) You export your blog contents into an xml file and then import them into your blog here. Please be aware that your photos are not imported and you will need to move them from Blogger. The links will not work from here.
    (2) You purchase domain mapping http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/domain-mapping/

Actually I think I found info about the domain switch, but I have no clue what this means :

    How to fix it
Using the DNS tools provided by your domain registrar, remove any existing nameservers and add the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

You can’t do it without the upgrade specified by TT above. Follow the link for instructions.

OK I changed the DNS things… and it says I purchased the domain map or whatever… but when I post to wordpress it doesn’t show up, and my blog still appears as a Blogger site. WHat gives?!

When you change DNS settings it can take 24-48 hours for it to propagate through the internet. With mine, it took 72 hours for it to fully take effect.

    Oooh sweet

Thanks, I think I probably did it right then. I’ll wait a couple days.

It may show up sooner, but then it may disappear again and then show up again. That’s what it did with me. After the 24-48 hours though it should stabilize for you. Perhaps sooner.

You’re welcome by the way, and happy blogging.

Erm… I’n trying to import a blog from Blogger with +6000 posts and it always stops around 1467. I there any limitation for the number of posts to import? How can I resolve this?

    Thanks

How big is the file, size wise? If it’s 3mb or more, then you will probably have to either break it up into smaller sections by editing the xml file, or contact support to see if they can upload it for you from the back end.

http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ (Mon-Fri 8am-4pm Pacific time) or using the “support” button in the upper right of your dashboard.

Some people can’t see your WordPress.com stuff? what blog is that? Sounds like there’s a problem with it if that’s the case.

Note that if you duplicate content ie have the same thing on WP.com as on Blogger, all the search engines will downgrade you, as they perceive it as an attempt to game the system.
