Broken links with site redirect
I bought a site redirect, but the links are broken, at least checking the links from Pinterest. Is this normal? It was my understanding that the links would still work. Please let me know, thanks.
The blog I need help with is somewhere-in-the-middle.com.
Can you give me an example of a link you are trying to get to work? The full URL.
I’m not sure if this is right, but here’s a link to a pin on pinterest. When you click to go to the website it says page not found, where before it would direct to the post on my wordpress.com account.
My pins all say they are suspicious links now, too, and yesterday before I purchased the redirect that wasn’t happening.
Thank you for your patience over the weekend.
So the issue appears to be that your permalink structure was changed when you moved from WordPress.com to your self-hosted site. So, when clicking on a specific link, the site redirect is trying to send people to a page that doesn’t exist on your new site. This is probably why Pinterest is flagging stuff as suspicious, because it’s a redirect that doesn’t actually go anywhere.
You could change your permalink structure to match the structure you used on WordPress.com, but that might take a lot of work. You could also put in individual redirects so that the links are each pointing to the correct “new” version of the page. That would also be a lot of work, and might not ease pinterest’s suspicions, but it might be less work than the permalink issue.
Thanks for the answer! Can you point me to a tutorial or something that would show me how to redirect the links? Or to fix the permalinks. I would try either at this point.
Here is the support page on WordPress.org about permalinks:
As for redirects, you will get better advice asking your question on the WordPress.org support forums:
Hope that helps!
