browser freezes when editing post
I have a post I was attempting to write, and it froze my browser. Fortunately, I had saved it as a draft. Now, though, my browser freezes every time I click on it to edit. This happens in both IE (7.0.5730.11) and Firefox (22.214.171.124); the difference being that Firefox also eats up memory and starts thrashing the hard drive as well.
I’m wondering if there’s any way to get a copy of the content so far without the browser freezing. Also, since I’m assuming this has something to do with the WYSIWYG editor, I’m wondering if there’s a way to avoid that in the future and work entirely in the Code view without the system ever trying to render something in the WYSIWYG view.
You might like to go here -> Users -> My Profile and uncheck the box for using the visual rich text editor, then click “Update Options” to save. Then try to edit the post in the standard editor. Prior to that you might try clearing your browser using ctrl F5.
Also the version of firefox you are using has known issues. It has long since been replaced so you might consider upgrading yours to firefox 126.96.36.199
Was the text in the post copied and pasted from a program like WORD or was it from a website? http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/09/why-not-to-use-word/
Perhaps other bloggers have better suggestions to offer that will be more helpful.
I suspect it’s some sort of code snippet?
If tt’s suggestion does not work, yes the post content can be got. Leave the name of the post and I’ll email the contents to you.
Thanks very much. I have disabled the visual editor and this appears to be working. I don’t mind working without the visual editor, so this is perfect as far as I’m concerned. Timethief, thanks very much!
(As a side comment, I don’t actually use Firefox, hence its being out of date… it was just something I tried to avoid the freeze in IE.)
I’m glad this worked out for you. I’m amazed that you don’t use firefox and instead prefer IE … go figure ;)
