bug: wrong publish date

  • The date part of a post comes out wrong whenever you start a post on the Android WP app and continue the post on a computer. When you hit “publish” on the computer you get the date of the post creation (as draft) of the Android App.

Same bug also happens sometimes when you use both new and old editor on the same post.

I know how to correct the address, but than all the people who subscribe by email to the blog end up with a broken link to the post.

Also annoying, that the default setting for a post created on the WP app is “publish” and not “draft”. Perhaps this has something to do with the date coming out wrong – even if you first change the setting to “draft” and only than save.

The interaction between the app and the website needs polishing. Hard to get “occasionally connected” usage models correct, I know.

  • Hi there.

Thanks for the report! I’ve passed this along to the team behind the Android app, and have also created a few drafts within my own app to see if I’m able to replicate the bug when publishing the posts later today or tomorrow. I’ll let you know what I hear back from the team and how my testing goes.

  • Hi there.

Following on from my last message, I was able to replicate the bug you described by creating a draft in the Android app and then publishing the post directly from https://wordpress.com/posts/my/drafts. I’ve highlighted the button that I had to click on to replicate the bug:

    Screen Shot 2015 05 19 at 17 46 28

If I clicked Edit on the above screenshot, and published the post directly from the post’s editor, then the bug didn’t occur.

I’ve reported these extra details back to our team and will let you know when I hear back. In the meantime, I recommend clicking the Edit button before publishing your post as a workaround.

Let me know how you get on with that, or if you have any other troubles.

  • Thanks Sionhyb, but as best as I recall I did edit the post quite extensively on my PC prior to publishing it. I did use the “old” editor which I much prefer.
I do have a workaround – I stopped using the Android app. But I think we are not yet at the bottom of this. I’ll try some testing on my side.
    Thanks again,

  • Thanks for clarifying. I was testing in by editing in the new editor, but will try in the classic too.

  • I now understand the problem!
When you start a post in the Android app, and change the status to draft before saving it, the state really changes to draft that is scheduled for publishing at the time and date of the save.
But it does not really gets published at that date automaically. Rather, the date at the address field is “stuck” at this date, and stays that way even if you later save the draft again, or publish it. The date just does not update.

  • Thanks again for all of the testing and help in replicating the issue. I’ve added the extra details you gave to the report for our mobile developers to look into. I’ll let you know when I hear back from them.
