Business Identiy Theme – Blog post formatting

  • I created a category, News page to display all of my posts with the category of News. The text from the posts is being truncated after a certain number of characters. I found out from the support team that the Business Identity theme supports neither the “more” tag or Excerpt. I’m looking for a work around to have a more or continue reading tag like we see on the static front page where I have assigned a Posts page.

I’m not sure how to post this question to the Premium theme forum to contact the author.

The website is currently private and user name only while in development.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

I’m not sure how to post this question to the Premium theme forum to contact the author.

At the bottom of the Business Identity premium theme support forum it says “New Topic in this Forum.” I presume there’s a link there if you’ve paid for the theme.

I found out from the support team that the Business Identity theme supports neither the “more” tag or Excerpt.

There is clear evidence in both the posts page and category pages, in the Business Identity theme demo, of the use of excerpts. For example, the posts page of the demo contains the following excerpt at the post “Using Custom Post Excerpts in Business Identity,” which isn’t drawn from the post itself:

Custom post excerpts are supported on the Business Identity home page, as well as all post archive pages throughout sites using the theme. Click the Continue Reading link for more information on using custom post excerpts on your site. They are great for teasing information to your website visitors, so give them a try on your business website today.

  • The blog I need help with is aquariusph.wordpress.com.

This is an erroneous connection, staff.

  • Can you let us know whether you still need help, @cadombro ? We’d be happy to point you in the right direction.

  • I have a two part problem. @musicdoc1 although the documentation states that the continue reading link is available, that function is only available on the static from page when the posting is set up. The continue reading function (More tag) is not available on the blog post page that consolidates all the posts. This issue has been logged with the theme author by WordPress.

  • The second part of my problem is a weird quirk of how WordPress sets up accounts. I was not the person who paid for the business plan/premium theme access and therefore cannot see the Add New button on the premium theme forum to contact the theme owner.

  • The continue reading function (More tag) is not available on the blog post page that consolidates all the posts. This issue has been logged with the theme author by WordPress.

On the Business Identity demo, the front page (with the home page template assigned), posts page (“Updates”), and archives pages all appear to be using the same custom post excerpts. However, on the front page, the title is not a link and the excerpt is followed by a “Continued Reading” link, whereas on the posts page and archives pages, the title is a link to the post, but no link follows the excerpt.

I suspect that the “Continued Reading” links on the front page post excerpts are generated automatically, rather than the result of adding More tags.

Are you attempting to use More tags in the post content, or in an excerpt?

The second part of my problem is a weird quirk of how WordPress sets up accounts…

I’ll leave this issue for staff to respond to.

  • Also, the featured images of post excerpts are links to the corresponding posts on the Home Page Template, but not on the posts page or archives pages. This, and the fact that the either the “Continued Reading” link appears or the title is a link, but not both, depending upon the type of page the excerpts are displayed on, appear to be design choices.

  • @cadombro it looks like you were able to straighten out ownership and should have the Add New button now.

  • Yes, the account owner transferred ownership to me and now I can see the Add New button on the premium theme support forum.

  • I have the answer! A config change was needed. On the Business Identity theme, in the Customizer > Website Layout section, the section titled Blog Content with the text “Use this setting to determine whether excerpts or full content will show on your blog index and archive pages”. I set the Blog content to “Full” and now my blog posts are displaying the full text and the Continue Reading tag is displayed where I used the More tag in the post. Many thanks to David C. from WordPress who was diligent in answering my questions and following up to get the solution!

(still missing breadcrumbs but that has been logged with the author)

  • Awesome :) I’m glad you’re able to work this out with the theme authors!
