Can i add paypal buy button on my blog

  1. Hi,

Wanted to check if adding a paypal button on the blog is allowed.

The blog I need help with is

  2. I saw some wordpress blog which are using paypal buy button, wanted to check how can we do that.

  3. You're more than welcome to add a PayPal donate button.

    Just follow this guide:

Please let us know if you have any more questions!

  4. You can't use the encrypted version, though. Or the Buy It Now button.

  5. Yes, that's correct. Sorry, I didn't notice your "buy now button" tag until just now.

    I'm afraid e-commerce isn't possible here at

If you require e-commerce/shopping cart functionality, you might be interested in a self-hosted ( installation. There are no restrictions on e-commerce if you setup a self-hosted blog instead of a blog, but there are some added responsibilities.

Please see this link to learn about the differences:

We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested:

  6. that blows

  7. That blows? Is that the same as saying it is pants? Because it is pants.

  8. @helicopterskiing
That site linked to your username is not a free blog from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM. If you do have a a free blog from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM then you need to become aware of the restrictions here.

You have not provided a link to your blog so we don't know what relevance your opinion may have as we don't know which blog you may be referring to. If you do have a a free blog from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM then you need to become aware of the restrictions here.

In a nutshell free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM cannot be used to drive traffic to third-party sites by means of advertising and/or affiliate programs (see next section for more clarity). E-commerce cannot be conducted on wordpress.COM blogs. No retailing or reselling the work created by anyone other than yourself is allowed.

    Affiliate marketing blogs
The only exceptions with regard to affiliate links are found here:

Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category.

I am sorry, but advertising is not allowed on free hosted blogs. The only exceptions are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, and very high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.

If you require an ecommerce site, advertising and/or affiliate links on your blog, you can hire a web host and get a free software install from

Blimey your good though and thanks for taking the time here.
I started with a blog but have progressed to needing a 'buy now' button from Paypal. I am selling my own property btw and have now included a link to my site so you can see.
I am pretty much a doughnut when it comes to web-building and f it wasn't for WordPress I might never have done anything. If you have any more thoughts or advice they would be most welcome by myself, and other lurkers here, no doubt.

    Peace and Respect

  10. Little presumptuous of WordPress to assume that if someone wants a buy now button they must be selling "stolen goods". Not everyone's into selling pirated material, and therefore, not everyone want tarnishing with that brush!

    Just a thought.

  11. @billspice, they aren't assuming you will sell stolen goods, but this place is mostly set up as a blogging platform, and they decided early on that they would not allow advertising or selling of things that you do not make with your own hands. If you are a photographer, an artist or craftsperson wanting to sell stuff you have actually created, then that is completely OK, but you cannot use the encrypted paypal buy now button.

The code used for the full-fledged buy now button is not allowed here for security reasons. This is a multi-user platform which means we all share the same underlying theme and wordpress files, and any bad or misbehaving code installed by one blogger could potentially bring down the entire system.

  12. @billspice
Tarnished? I've been tarnished? Don't tell my Mum. Please!

    flightless waterfowl or what?!
Is it late enough yet to have a glass of wine and erase this memory? lol :D

As you are not selling the intellectual property of others then you may wish to take a look at the contact form. See here >

You may also wish to link your blog to your username. If so then > Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary blog starting and then save changes.

Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

  15. @TT, it's late enough here and I'm sipping a merlot.

  16. @timethief

Your cool. Thank you very much for all your help, tips and direction. I am looking to stay with WordPress and shall get the .org and have it hosted soon.

    Peace and Respect

  17. @TSP
I bought up what I thought was a Merlot from the cellar but when I viewed it in the light it was a Cabernet. ... MEH ...

  18. @framednofuss
Hey there. We are cool. :) As you are contemplating the content move to a install then this post may be of interest to you in the near future. > Setting up a self-hosted install >

    Happy blogging. :)

  19. @timethief
