I created a wordpress.com account and then mistakenly created a blog rather than a website. I deleted the blog and now I would like to create a website using my original account. Is that possible?

Can I convert a blog to a website using the same account?
Too bad your deleted the blog. Now you will have to register another one.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication.
A website is a page based site designed to operate as a one way means of communication ie. a noticeboard.
blog = site with post based structure being continually updated - attractive to search engines
website = site with page based structure - rarely updated - unattractive to search engines
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based, but let's put that aside for the moment. Understand that what attracts search engines is unique content the cannot be found anywhere else on the internet and that content is found in POST based structures. You can use any theme here at WordPress.com to create a page based structure ie. a website rather than a post based structure ie. a blog.
On one hand, none of the characteristic "blog" features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog, without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.
On the other hand, one can edit a WordPress.org theme free of charge. That's why I suggested you read the comparison > WordPress.com and WordPress.org: The Differences
