Hi there. Media files follow the default comment settings for your site. So if you have comments enabled on your posts, they will also be enabled on Media attachment pages or in the Carousel.
To the best of my knowledge there is still no bulk edit for comments on media so you will need to edit each media file to disallow comments.
I will follow up on this thread tomorrow when i am back on a computer as long posts are difficult on mobile. :)

@justjennifer
Thanks. What you provided what was a vague memory for me. I needed clarification.P.S. Since the rolling gales and successive power outages we have suffered I’ve been unable to get a wifi connection so I’m on my PC and will call my computer techy after he enjoy the weekend with his family.

Thanks JustJennifer for the info.
Thats kind of crazy time consuming. Hope they fix this! -

I don’t think they think it’s broken. My guess is that it’s probably not a high priority for Staff to focus on providing a bulk edit for media comments at this time.

The issue is that viewers visit a site open the photos and are inspired to comment within the carousel viewer mistakenly thinking it will post to the bottom of the blog entry.
The fact is that most commenting and discussion are now taking place beyond wordpress and trapped on facebook. This leads to less user engagement and traffic. -
Yes indeed. I do comprehend exactly where you are coming from. Let’s cross our fingers in the hope that Staff will act on this soon.

I raised this matter years ago and found there was no solution. By default Media attachment pages open up a comment box even if you’ve got comments disabled (or at least they used to). The only solution is to edit each image in turn which is a pain. So I still daily get spam comments appearing attached to ancient images of mine people have bumped into on search engines.

Yes, that’s what I vaguely recalled too.

Yeah I will not be holding my breath. Too bad for WP.
Thanks for everyone’s help answering my question.

By “comments disabled” I meant comments on the posts the images appeared on. Back in the day I didn’t know that comments could be made on images themselves.

@themagicrobot
I understood what you meant. And, back in the day … is a phrase reminds me of so many changes that have happened over these last 10 years. -

@ timethief Yes I’ll have been here nine years next month. I remember your Gravatar had a different image then and you had only posted a million replies in the forums and not the umpty thrumpty billion and counting now!!!!
-
@themagicrobot
Nine years is a long time and I have not thanked you yet for giving blogger a helping hand here by volunteering, so I’ll do that now. :)I have used multple images as gravatars over the years. It wasn’t until I reached my retirement birthday that I actually used an image of me anywhere online. Then I felt nervous about doing that so changed it again.
