Can I disable my custom fonts for a guided transfer? How?

    Although I have loved being part of, I have come to a point with my blog where it makes more sense for me to move it to I was thrilled to learn that this could be done with the help of "Happiness Engineers" through the store. However, whenever I try to select this option, I get one of two responses: the first is that they have exceeded their quota for transfers for the day and to try back tomorrow (I have gotten this at both 12:05 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.) or "WP cannot transfer sites that use custom fonts". So, I decided I would try to disable my custom fonts - although I'm not exactly sure what they are - and have had no luck. Thus, an endless loop of frustration.

    I'm unsure if my problem is really about my fonts or if there are just not that many guided transfers available. Could someone help me to clarify what is going on? As I want to make bigger changes to the appearance of my blog once it is on, I'm happy to give up my custom fonts for the transfer, I just don't want to do anything that would make my blog unreadable.

    Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated!

  2. You can transfer your blog yourself without the expensive Guided Transfer process. Just click on Dashboard->Tools->Export and then in the new blog click Import. Then you can do what you want in terms of fonts etc.

Fonts are not the issue, you can leave fonts in place and still do a transfer, it's just that the Typekit service that powers the custom fonts you are using is not included as part of a Guided Transfer and you would need to set that up yourself again on your new server if you wanted to use Typekit fonts there after you move.

  4. Thanks for your quick replies! Doing a guided transfer through WordPress holds a lot of appeal for me because my tech skills are somewhat limited and I have had bad luck in the past when trying to undertake seemingly simple processes like this on my own. What I would like to do is disable my Typekit custom fonts in order for my blog to become eligible for a guided transfer. Then there would be the issue of actually getting one (as they seem to be scarce), but I get up early -so maybe that would help.

    Thus, my question is: How does one go about disabling their custom fonts?

  5. Good morning! So I woke up really early to see about getting a Guided Transfer and by 4:30 a.m. EST the message said they had reached their quota and to try back tomorrow. Now it is 6:00 a.m. and the message says they don't do transfers for custom fonts. This is a very confusing loop. Can someone tell me what I can do to get out of it?

  6. Any Happiness Engineers able to answer this question? Every time I check in at the "store" about the guided transfer, it either says they have reached their limit (even in the wee hours of the morning), or that they don't do transfers for custom fonts. Seems really random. Can someone tell me what is going on?


  7. We only take a small amount of Guided Transfers each day. At this point, just keep trying. You'll get it eventually, and we'll be offering more per day soon.

  8. Thanks for the info. However, what about the occasional message I get about the "custom fonts". What does that mean? And do you have any idea about how long it will take before more are available? This is week 3 of my trying.

    As for Guided Transfers, more are available each morning, but they tend to go quickly.

At the moment, it is giving me the "no more left for the day", but at other times (often early in the morning and at random) the message will say "The Guided Transfer product is not currently available for blogs that use custom fonts. You can transfer your blog elsewhere by following these steps." Confusing! The question is, do I need to get rid of my custom fonts to do the transfer? I don't even know which ones they are....

  13. Have you tried contacting your new web host or looking through their support documentation to solve whatever problems you are having doing the import/export yourself? If wordpress's own instructions are unclear, you should be able to get a tech at the other end to walk you through it. Basically, if you can't get the level of support you need from your new host you shouldn't be moving there.

    I think I am seeing pattern here. During the day, the store says the "Guided Transfer limit has been reached", but at 3:00 in the morning, when it might be available - it reverts to the "can't do it for custom fonts message". Any thoughts?
