Can I "lurk" and follow comments without posting a comment myself?

  1. We are set up with pages for such things as "Lost & Found" and "Buy-Sell" and our viewers can make a comment (not a new post) to add new items. We would like any of our viewers who are interested to receive an email when a new comment is posted for a new item. Naturally, it would be impractical for all viewers to have to post a dummy comment in order to follow and receive these emails. Any suggestions?

  2. Not sure what you are actually asking here as your thread title is nothing to do with what you are actually asking, and you certainly can't use a free blog to buy and sell things. You can only sell things that you create yourself.

  3. Buy and Sell on a free hosted blog ... hmmm .. I'm thinking you may not have read the Terms of Service.

  4. we are a non-profit lake property owners association and the items for sale are just a courtesy between members - used boats or an old sofa. there is no intent for our association to make ANY type of profit as that is illegal.

so back to the question at hand. can one lurk and receive notification about a lost pet, dock that's floated away, or an old sofa that's for sale or giveaway without having to post a dummy comment?

  5. I thought it was, but it appears not to be the case. They would have to either bookmark the page or subscribe to the RSS feed of the comments, and there's no simple widget for that.

  6. Thank you, raincoaster, for your helpful answer. I feared this would be the case. Will have to ponder this situation further.

  7. That seems to me to be a bug. I will flag this for staff attention.
