Can I publish database queries to a WordPress.com page?

  • I’ve got a ‘Publications’ tab on my site, where publications are listed in chronological and then alphabetical order. I update this manually each time a new publication is published, and I define the order. I’d like for users to be able to select how the list is displayed – maybe sorted by first author, or by a research category (e.g., air pollution). I’d also like for my ‘Research’ pages to be able to list the most recent 10 publications for a particular research category. So this would work like the existing ‘Display Posts’ or ‘List Pages’ shortcodes, but the database to be queried would be one that I can manually populate. It would only be a simple database, with fields for publication name, date, authors, journal and research category. Is such a thing possible with WordPress.com? Many thanks. Liz

  • Hello,
I couldn’t find a straightforward way of doing that.
I do know if you had a self-hosted WordPress.org site, you could use a table plugin like TablePress to build / maintain your table of data.
TablePress, for one, let’s you turn on sorting and such so your end users could sort the table by whichever column they want, among other things.

    Good luck,
    Paul
