Can Not Make Spaces Between Posted Photos

  1. For some reason today I can not make spaces between photos I am trying to post. It used to be a problem only when using Firefox and worked OK using IE.
But now starting today, using one version of IE images will not upload *at all*.
Using a different version of IE, images upload but will not make spaces.
In Edit mode the spaces show as being there, but then they disappear upon publishing the page.

  2. The alignment icons in the WordPress editor are for aligning text; they are not for aligning images. They are used to achieve wrapping text around images on either the right or left hand side, or to display an image that's centered without text on either side of it. If the text beside the images does not occupy the same amount of space that the image beside it does then the text wrapping will continue and the images and text that follow will have a staggered appearance.

Align-left means position left, with the rest of the content wrapping around the right side of the image.
Align-right means position right, with the rest of the content wrapping around the left side of the image.
Align-center means position center, with no wrap-around (= the rest of the content below the image).

Every theme has a maximum displayed image width so it's important to keep that in mind when posting multiple images side-by-side. If you want two images to be side by side on the same line start by setting the alignment of both images to left. To prevent the staggered effect what you do is insert the following snippet of code into the HTML editor after each image/text pair:
    <br style="clear:both;" />

    re: Formatting won't work
Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you want to learn yow to format and space your posts and pages see:

If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.

If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines.

  3. Ok thanks. But why would I just start having this issue today?
I have been doing everything exactly the same for over three months and all images always appeared fine with the appropriate spaces between each until today.
The images I wanted to post today were the same size I usually post, nothing has changed, and I post every day. Same layout, same format, all the same, but I have problems only now today.
    Can't figure that.

    Check my blog at
You can see how the photos have always appeared and how they looked in today's post.

  4. I do see what you mean but I don't have an answer as to what changed. Perhaps Staff have been making some improvements we are unaware of. I've flagged this thread for their response.

  5. There are a ton of excess

tags in that post, making the browser think that everything is more of less part of the same element.

If you remove each one (edit the post in the Text tab), everything should go back to the way you want it to appear.

Thanks for reading the source code. It's not that I don't know how to do that. It's that my eyesight is so precious and I endeavor to avoid eye strain.

  7. Thanks very much timethief and macmanx, I greatly appreciate your help in this matter.

  8. You're welcome!

  9. Dear phillanoue,
Besides this problem still exists today, as you know it, please note that when I click on one of this post's pictures, there is a ERROR 404-NOT FOUND message unlike others posts' pictures which open.

  10. @citizenzoo
Please post an active link starting with http:// to an example of a post or page or the blog you are experiencing this issue with.

  11. @timethief
The post I'm referring to is :

and the ERROR 404-NOT FOUND's page is :

  12. That's because the attachment page for the images no longer exists, possibly because they were re-named or the link was altered.

In this case, the author should try deleting the inserted images from the post, then re-inserting them. Or, just delete and start over by uploading them again.

  13. @macmanx
    Thank you for your answer.

  14. You're welcome!
