CanCan I host my own video and add it without buying upgrade?

  1. Sorry if this has already been covered in the forum, but I've not been able to find anything directly useful.

I have avi clips I'd like to put on my blog. I don't want to buy an upgrade in order to upload them direct. But I do have a separate website I can store the clips on. I already do this for a sound file and I've been able to insert it onto my free WordPress blogsite and have it played by the WordPress sound player. Can this also be done with video files, and if so, how do I do it?

The blog I need help with is

  2. You will need to use the Vodpod button, available from and then you can put them in your blog.

  3. I want my videos to be available only on my WordPress blog. This system looks as though my videos would also be publicly available at Vodpod. Is that correct? Also, I can see nothing at VodPod about linking to a WordPress blog - it all seems to be about grabbing videos from your social networking accounts and making them available at VodPod.

I know I could also upload my videos to YouTube and then put them back into my WordPress blog, but again, that's not the point.

What I need to know is whether I can do the same thing in WordPress that you can do with an audio file - i.e. host the file myself, but have it played by the WordPress video player.

Sorry about the double word that starts the title of my query - a slip which I was unable to edit once it was sent.

  4. The filetypes section also says you need to buy a space upgrade if you want to send your sound files, but that isn't correct. If you host the files somewhere else, you certainly can put them into your blog without buying a space upgrade.

So if you can get in through the back door with sound files, can you also do it with video files?

  5. No. As raincoaster said, you need VodPod for that format. As you said, you can upload it to YouTube and put it in a post that way.

  6. I want to do the same thing as jmacg does. But you guys keep saying something else.

So far, I have not found any plugin that can:

    1. Upload my video in avi, mpeg, or whatever formats into my own server.
    2. Then post and display it between my post in .flv format.

  7. @leremy - A link to your blog please? Plugins can't be used here.
