Cannot import from Blogger

  1. same here! The page you have requested cannot be displayed. Another site was requesting access to your Google Account, but sent a malformed request. Please contact the site that you were trying to use when you received this message to inform them of the error. A detailed error message follows:

The site "http://wordpress.com" has not been registered.

  2. I have found a work-around to migrate content from blogspot.com to wordpress.com. I was able successfully migrate my blog from http://egiceme.blogspot.com to http://egiceme.wordpress.com using this script.

If you are interested, please check this link: http://linuxlore.blogspot.com/2007/09/livejournal-to-blogger-or-blogger-to.html

Hope it will help you too...

  3. So, we'll have to go to livejournal, create an account there, export to livejournal, then export from livejournal to wordpress? Wow. If it works, what a hassle if it doesn't....

  4. Got the same problem. Has anyone been contacted by the staff yet about the problem?

  5. Same problem. Hope WordPress can due with this problem with Google soon.

  6. nicoletemp:

Blog2Blog program allows direct transfer from Blogspot to WordPress.

  7. I got a reply to an email I sent Support. Here's what you do, and it's pretty easy.

    1. In Blogger, go to your Settings > Basic > Blog Tools > Export Blog.

    2. Click on Download Blog. It'll save as an .xml file.

    3. Go to http://blogger2wordpress.appspot.com/ and find the .xml file and click Convert. It'll save as a WordPress.xml file.

    4. In WordPress, go to Tools > Import > WordPress.

    5. Find the WordPress version of the .xml file you just converted and click Upload File and Import.

It worked for me. Hope it helps.

  8. ^ Edit: In #3, it'll save as WordPress.wxr file, sorry.

  9. @megansoandso, thank for posting that here in the forums.

  10. Thank you megansoandso. I had the problem as well and I did it the way you explained and it worked great!!

  11. ditto. Blogger to WordPress migration path is down.

  12. @puresight, see megansoandso's post 4 above yours for a temporary workaround.

  13. Thanks megansoandso, I tried your suggestion and it worked for me.

Does anybody know a way to get round this that will also import/export your comments?

  14. Actually, ignore that last comment. They weren't showing at first when I exported from Blogger but now they are. Thanks.

  15. Hi! I also wanted to move my posts, etc. from Blogger and received the same message from Google.

  16. Hello,

I have three blogs with Blogger and normally export the posts to my wordpress account. Today, after I successfully exported two of them, I had problems importing one...

I received this message from google"

The page you have requested cannot be displayed. Another site was requesting access to your Google Account, but sent a malformed request. Please contact the site that you were trying to use when you received this message to inform them of the error. A detailed error message follows:

The site "http://wordpress.com" has not been registered.

My wordpress blog is http://noteworthy4ever.wordpress.com (a protected blog)

My blogger blog is at http://masterwordsmith-unplugged.blogspot.com

    Please help.

    Thanks a lot.

  17. Read megansoandso's post a little ways back up the page: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cannot-import-from-blogger-1/page/2?replies=46#post-335822 . It has a temporary solution.

I tried out the solution for megansoandso's post - but unfortunately it didnt work as my .xml file is too big: 5.9MB.

    There is a "MemoryError" output.

    Any other solution for this?

  19. There is a limit on import file sizes, and I believe it is 2mb. What you will have to do is to break the XML file up into say three or 4 sections that are less than 2mb each. This forum post from a while back covers breaking up the file: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/import-more-than-3mb?replies=2

  20. megansoandso,

It works, thank you for the suggestion.

  21. Thank you megansoandso for the fix. Worked awesome!!

  23. great workaround, but unfortunately the limit is a 2MB archive. any updates on this issue, staff?

  24. I am also looking for a quick solution. My Blogspot XML is 8 MB!

  25. This solution worked for me too. Thank you very much.

  26. Thanks thesacredpath for your link about breaking up the XML file. Unfortunately it talks about breaking up an already converted file, not about breaking up a blogger-exported XML file.

I'm also getting the memory error in converting, and wordpress.com doesn't offer any kind of "import an XML file" option. (hint hint)

    Any help on this please?

  27. Update: randomly cutting an XML file into smaller bits produces this error:

    Traceback (most recent call last):<br /> File "/base/python_lib/versions/1/google/appengine/ext/webapp/__init__.py", line 503, in __call__<br /> handler.post(*groups)<br /> File "/base/data/home/apps/blogger2wordpress/1.330699343967538652/blogger2wordpress.py", line 36, in post<br /> translator = b2wp.Blogger2Wordpress(input)<br /> File "/base/data/home/apps/blogger2wordpress/1.330699343967538652/b2wp.py", line 69, in __init__<br /> self.feed = atom.FeedFromString(self.doc)<br /> File "/base/data/home/apps/blogger2wordpress/1.330699343967538652/atom/__init__.py", line 1285, in FeedFromString<br /> return CreateClassFromXMLString(Feed, xml_string)<br /> File "/base/data/home/apps/blogger2wordpress/1.330699343967538652/atom/__init__.py", line 97, in CreateClassFromXMLString<br /> tree = ElementTree.fromstring(xml_string)<br /> File "<string>", line 86, in XML<br /> SyntaxError: no element found: line 301, column 22

This might be because I needed to cut single lines from the original file at rather random points. One line in my file was 2.1M just for that single line.

Any further suggestions for converting Blogger export XML file into WordPress imporable file is greatly appreciated. Thx!

  28. Thanks Megan for the quickfix solution. Worked for me.

  29. Same problem for me:
I tried importing my blog from blogspot (blogger). It is a 4 y o blogg, I don't want it lost in cyberspace.
Trying export accorting to all instructions.
Yet I got the following error message:
The page you are trying to access cannot be shown. Another website demanded access to your google-account but sent an erroneous formulated question. Please contact the website you tried using when you got this message to alert them of this error. The website "http://wordpress.com" hasn't been registered."

  30. I tried the megansoandso trick, but got the following message.

    Error: Request Entity Too Large
Your client issued a request that was too large.

I'm NOT trying to import the whole blog content but just to update the most recent posting.

Pls someone out there, how do I go about it.

    Thanking you in advance.
