Cannot renew my domain.

    I am currently unable to renew the domain name for our website, as the person who originally purchased it is no longer involved. They passed over being an administrator to me, but there still seems no way to renew the page without involving them. Is there some way I can do it myself?

    Every blog has a sole owner and it is the person with the username account who registered the blog under that username account originally. The blog owner can use the process to transfer the blog to your username account and then Staff can transfer the upgrade.

    Only the person who originally purchased the domain can renew it. They are the sole owner of that domain and the domain upgrade. If they transfer the domain to another user, that user will be the new domain owner and can manage the domain.

    If the domain owner wants to transfer the domain to you, please ask them to contact us directly or post a reply in this forum thread to confirm that request. We can help transfer the domain to you so you can manage it.

    Just a note about this domain: It has already expired, so time is of the essence here. The sooner the current domain owner can contact us about this, the better. You can read more about what happens when a domain expires here: Domain Expiration

    Sounds great! I checked our records, and we also sent them an email about this. They can also confirm by replying directly to that email, and then we can transfer the domain. :)

    Thanks you again! I was just wondering if we are potentially going to be charged any more late fees? It has taken us some time to realise that transferring the domain was something that we would need help with, and so we spent a few weeks trying to figure it out ourselves.

    Since the domain expired a month ago, there is a late fee for renewal. There’s a grace period for a couple weeks after the domain expires where you can renew it at the regular price, but after that our domain registrar partner imposes an additional fee.

    There’s also a chance that the domain could be resold to a new owner, as described here: Domain Expiration – Redemption Period

    That’s why it’s important to renew the domain as soon as possible. The person who currently owns the domain could renew it at any time, or once they confirm the transfer request you’ll be able to renew it as the new domain owner.

    Hi kardotim, the user ‘mikestuchbery’ was always able to renew it, the problem is that I need to be the one to renew it, and so further up in the thread it said if he confirmed via email that it is fine to transfer the domain to me, that I would then be able to update the domain myself.

    Currently he is not involved with the website, so I need to update it, and there is no way to get him to renew. Is it possible to now transfer the domain to me as he has confirmed that this is ok?

    Higher up in the thread it said that he had been sent an email already. I contacted him and he said that he responded to this email on the 27/1 to confirm the domain transfer. Is it possible to check the records?
