Cannot select a theme – not found
I’ve just created this site but can’t persuade WP to reliably apply the theme I choose. I get a Not Found type error, though the actual wording varies depending on the theme.
I did manage to select one, somehow, which I don’t much care for, but so far I’m finding it impossible to change it.
http://tetrapods.wordpress.com shows the error.
Firefox 21.0, cleared the cache, don’t know what else to try.
The blog I need help with is tetrapods.wordpress.com.
You see “nothing found” (or 404 not found, or other wording because you deleted the placeholder post which comes with a new account. Usually it’s “Hello World”
All you need do is to write and publish a post and the “not found” will be replaced with your own post.
Your page is working as expected.
Any theme you select in Appearance > Themes gets applied a few seconds after you click “Activate”. The message you’re seeing doesn’t refer to the theme, it refers to your blog front. You deleted the sample “Hello World” post, so the blog front has no content to display. You need to publish a post (in Posts > Add New), or set the blog front to display the static page you created (in Settings > Reading).
For the Responsive theme, the static front page template is what sets it apart from the others. You have a featured introduction, with a picture next to it, a “call out” button (I don’t know how many on wp.com version) and three featured front-page widgets.
There are also at least a couple of menus which you can use for different links. (wp.org version has 4 but I’m not sure how many the wp.com version has)
Perfect solutions all, thank you! I have changed my theme!
