since I’m using this as a “food” blog – and there are lots of photos, I would prefer to keep a page that has a gallery of all the food photos – but will link them back to the original post – and just show them as thumbnails in the post that you can click on to see the sequential photos of the steps.
I’ve read, I’ve experimented and I’ve hit a dead end.
bakearama: Nope. Not yet. I’m sorting through pages of online helps and other ideas to see if I can figure it out.

To have multiple galleires on the same page you will need to attach all of the images to the page first, and then use shortcodes to designate which images you want included in each gallery. http://support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/#gallery-shortcode.
After you upload the images go to to Media > Library, hover over each image name, note its ID number at the end of the info displayed in the status/progress bar of your browser, then go to the page editor, switch to the HTML editor, and use the gallery shortcode image ID number for the images you want to include.
