Can’t get code to show up in sidebar

  • I have a travel blog, and wanted to add a weather button, a badge showing an expat blogging group that I belong to, and a German Word of the Day thing. I’ve used the Text Widget to add code to my sidebar, but nothing is showing up correctly. When I copy/paste code in and hit “save”, WordPress erases most or all of the code. The weather button appears as a link, the badge doesn’t appear at all, and the German Word of the Day appears as jumbled code.

Please help; I can’t figure this out!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Perhaps this will clear things up:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
wordpress.com automatically strips off any code that is not allowed.

  • That is somewhat helpful, thanks. Do you (or anyone else) know how I can get all my goodies to appear in my sidebar? I know that Blogger does it, and I know I’ve seen little gadgets on a few people’s WordPress blogs. How?

  • Blogger and WordPress, let alone wordpress.com, are three very different animals. wordpress.com only allows widgets that are either in the widgets list in your dashboard or non-scripted widgets, which there aren’t many of.
